August 2010 should be marked as one of the most significant month in my life.

If you knew me back then, you wouldn’t have thought that I will one day produce a technology magazine show – a show that I did not only produce, but at the same time act as the tech journalist, the script writer, the voice over talent, the editor, the visual editor (part-time), the social media manager and more.

I didn’t see that coming either.

When I was still in the university, I didn’t understand why Apple and Google is such a big deal. I had no idea what “mobile ecosystem” is either. I have never thought that I will one day understand what “cloud” is or to instantly think of Google Android’s Jellybean at the mention of “jellybean”. The technology realm changed my life.

Third month into my graduation, a life changing opportunity came knocking. My then supervisor, Jacqueline came to me and said, “from today onwards, you will have to live and breathe tech”. The technology show was nonexistent then – it was an idea that has been conceptualized, yet to be executed.

Hence the commencement of my quest into all things digital, while experiencing how it is like to produce a show on my own, from scratch.

I would choose not to bore you with how we came about to finalizing the titles for each segment; or why we decided on the particular look and feel; or how we came about to decide on every other details that make what Gadget Nation is today. It was not something that can be achieved within a week or a month – not a feat that can be achieved without the guidance and support of every team involved.

I was a fresh faced degree holder – one that was eager to challenge what I am not familiar with. Three years down the road, with many blessings, I have the opportunity to grow with Astro AWANI. My experience in TV production matured alongside Gadget Nation as well.

I spent the last three years in the newsroom, as a journalist also as a TV Producer. I am a believer that so long as you set your eyes to something, you can definitely make things work for you. Getting into the broadcasting industry was not something that I planned or envisioned to happen, yet it happened and I am very grateful it did. My experience showed me that with enough focus, self-belief and dedication, every one of us are capable of conquering the new (or the unknown).

An opportunity was given, I seized it and maximize its potential. Eight seasons in total.

I am honoured to have had the opportunity to grow with Gadget Nation. A month into joining the marketing team at Astro AWANI, I am hopeful. Whatever the challenge will be here’s a note to self: take one step at a time, keep the communications open and be sincere.

As I move on to a new chapter, I wish the best to the new team who is taking over the production for Gadget Nation.

My biggest fear: not outperforming myself.

But take a step back and reflect on that thought - I realized that this fear will also be the one thing that will stop me from performing.

Firstly, worrying (about anything) is a waste of time…and energy.

A lot of times, I noticed that those extra miles of tiny achievements happened because ‘I just do it’. At a certain point of time for example, I would work on a certain project mainly out of interest and also out of pure willingness - all because I was in the ‘just do’ kind of mindset.

There’s this motto that has always serves as a reminder to self: one step at a time. I believe that this is closely relate to the appreciation of ‘the moment’. So long as I concentrate on what is to be done at every one moment, things will get done eventually. This has been what kept me motivated for so long, and I believe it is one of the best ways to make my fear irrelevant.

Value Adding Story Telling

As important as it is to get the numbers/ratings, as a story teller (individual or otherwise), I believe that if your story has the capability to move even a minimal amount of people, and add value to their lives, you have already made a difference. And this is what drives me.
